Air supply system — design description (BMW X5 E53)

The air supply system is designed to supply air to the combustion chamber in the amount required by the engine at a given power mode while maintaining complete combustion, and includes the following units and assemblies:

• air intake device;
• air ducts;
• air purification filter;
• air flow meter;
• throttle body;
• air manifold (intake manifold).

Air filter

The design of the air intake and air filter is shown in Fig. 4.18.



The air filter has a dry replaceable filter element. The filter is replaced when the light indicator of the maintenance indicator lights up. In case of intensive use, in unfavorable natural conditions, replacement is recommended with a reduction in its service life to 15,000–20,000 km.
