Removal and installation, checking of the electromagnetic stop valve (BMW 3 Series E36)
The electromagnetic shut-off valve is located on the high-pressure fuel pump above the fuel hose connections. As soon as the ignition is switched on, the electromagnetic shut-off valve is energized by the DDE control unit and the fuel supply channel is opened. When de-energized, the valve core is extended by the action of the built-in spring and closes the fuel supply channel. The electromagnetic valve should be checked if the engine does not start.
Turn on the ignition. You should hear the valve click.
Otherwise, unscrew the electrical wire. Apply voltage to the valve from the battery through the auxiliary wire.
If the electromagnetic valve is triggered, check the wiring according to the electrical diagram, as well as the power supply of the main DDE relay "1" (white) and the fuel pump relay "2" (orange, in the relay box).
If the valve does not operate, replace the solenoid valve.
Turn off the ignition.
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Clean the shut-off valve from the outside.
Unscrew the electrical wire.
Unscrew the electromagnetic stop valve with a wrench.
Insert the solenoid valve with a new O-ring. Make sure the spring and piston are correctly positioned.
Carefully screw the valve into the high-pressure fuel pump and tighten to a torque of approximately 20 Nm.
Connect the wire to the solenoid valve.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
Examination

Removal
Turn off the ignition.
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the information in the electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory or the radio security code memory, is erased. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off, so as not to damage the fuel injection system control unit. When disconnecting the battery, follow the instructions in the sections "Radio" and "Removing and installing the battery".
Clean the shut-off valve from the outside.
Unscrew the electrical wire.
Unscrew the electromagnetic stop valve with a wrench.
Caution: Do not allow the core and spring to fall out. When de-energized, the valve core is extended by the built-in spring.
Installation
Insert the solenoid valve with a new O-ring. Make sure the spring and piston are correctly positioned.
Carefully screw the valve into the high-pressure fuel pump and tighten to a torque of approximately 20 Nm.
Connect the wire to the solenoid valve.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
