Withdrawal
1. Remove the intake air guide by removing the clip with a small screwdriver (arrows in the illustration).

2. Remove the suction line from the EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation systems), for which open the clamp, refer to Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
3. The diesel engine has an air operated radiator shutter located behind the fan. Disconnect the vacuum hose -1- from the vacuum box. Remove the drive rod from the blinds, for which remove the retainer -2- from the side.
4. Remove the rivet -3- with a small screwdriver.
5. Models 320i, 323i, 328i with air conditioning: Remove the viscous fan, refer to Section Removing and installing a viscous fan.
6. Disconnect the connector -1- of the electric fan to the right of the radiator.
7. Turn out the screw -2-.
8. Take out a rivet in a point -1 - at the left. The rivet is not shown in the illustration.
9 Push back slightly on the fan shroud at the top center and detach the guide bar. Pull the fan shroud and impeller upwards together.
10. Models 320d: Unscrew the fastening screw -1- and four other screws securing the fan blinds and remove it from the fan casing.
11. If necessary, remove the three screws securing the fan shroud and remove the motor.
Installation
12. Attach the fan motor to the shroud with three screws.
13. Models 320d: Fasten the fan shutters to the shroud with screws.
14. Insert the fan shroud from the top so that both lower mounting brackets fit into the lugs on the fan.
15. Secure the fan shroud with the rivet on the left side of the heatsink. Replace damaged clips.
16. Screw in the screw -2- on the right side of the radiator.
17. Dock the connector of the electric fan and fix it.
18. Models 320d: Connect the vacuum hose -1- to the vacuum box. Connect the drive rod to the radiator shutter lever and secure with the retainer -2-. Insert rivet -3-.
19 Models 320d: Connect the suction hose to the EGR valve and secure with a hose clamp.
20. Insert the intake air guide, insert the rivet and secure with pins.
