Removal and installation the windshield wiper motor / rear door glass (BMW 5 Series E28)

If your car radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have entered the correct code before disconnecting the battery cable. Refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument cluster language before disconnecting the wire.

If after connecting the wire, the inscriptions on your instrument panel appear in a language other than the one you need, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument cluster language, which describes the procedure for installing the required language.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Windshield wiper motor

1. Remove the plugs and loosen the nuts.



2. After loosening the nut, use a magnet to remove the metal washer, then remove the wiper arms.



3. Pry up on the retaining clips and remove the fairing grille to gain access to the wiper assembly.

4. Loosen the screws or nuts and remove the windshield wiper cover located on the engine compartment bulkhead.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the wiper linkage.

6. Mark the position of the wiper shaft relative to the rod. Remove the wiper rod from the motor shaft by carefully prying it off with a screwdriver.

7. Remove the three mounting bolts and remove the wiper motor from the vehicle.

8. Install in reverse order. When installing the motor, if necessary, connect the connector and turn on the motor to set it to neutral position (windshield wipers in idle position).

Rear door wiper motor

1. Open the rear window of the tailgate.

2. Remove the trim panel(s), then disconnect the washer tube and wiring connector.



3. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the windshield wiper motor.



4. The wiper blades and pivot mechanism can be removed from the rear window if necessary after removing the trim panels.



5. Install in reverse order. When installing the motor, if necessary, connect the connector and turn on the motor to set it to neutral position (windshield wipers in idle position).
