Removal and installation the windshield wiper motor (BMW 3 Series E30)

Removal

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.



Remove the arms of both wipers. Move the arm "1" away from the windshield and thereby release the plastic cover "2". Raise the cover slightly, lower the arm again and completely release the cover.

Unscrew the fastening nut "3" and remove the brush lever from the support axle.

Remove cover "4".



Use a screwdriver to pull the plastic grill upward.

Unscrew the motor from both support axles and crush the installed washers.

Remove the heater fan (see section "Removal and installation the heater fan").



Disconnect connector "1" in the installed position. Unscrew nut "2" of the windshield wiper rods, press the windshield wiper crank from the motor axis.



Unscrew bolt 3- of the motor console.

Turn the motor a little and pull it out with the console.

Remove the motor cover.

If necessary, remove the wiper arms.

Installation

Insert the windshield wiper rods.



Place spacer washers "1" on each wiper arm support.

Insert the wiper arm supports into the body. Put on the washer "2" and screw on the nut "3".

Insert the wiper motor together with the housing and console.



Turn the windshield wiper motor together with the housing to the installation position and tighten the bolt (arrow) on the console.

Insert the cable connector "A" into the upper part of the bracket. Then connect the mating part of the connector.

Connect the ground wire to the battery.

Briefly turn on the windshield wiper motor and turn it off with the windshield wiper switch so that the motor returns to its original position.



Place the windshield wiper rods in their original position. To do this, press the windshield wiper rod, secured to the crank, all the way to the left.

After this, place the crank on the motor axle and secure it with a nut.

Caution: The crank and wiper support rod must be aligned (180°).

Press the plastic grate on both sides. Put the overlay "4" (figure W-6004).

The wiper arms are initially located on the right side. Place the wiper arm on the support. Measure the distance of the wiper blade to the lower rubber band of the glass with a ruler. The distance in the middle of the blade to the rubber band of the glass should be 6 cm.

In this position, place the wiper arm on the axle and secure with a nut.

Wet the windshield and check whether the wipers are installed in their original position. If necessary, rearrange the wipers.

Install the heater fan motor (see section "Removal and installation the heater fan").
