Removal and installation the turn signal switch and windshield wiper (BMW 5 Series E34)

The turn signal and windshield wiper switches are so-called steering column switches and are removed in the same way.

Removal

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Remove the steering wheel.



Remove the two screws from the top of the steering column trim.

Remove the two screws in the lower cutout of the steering column trim.

Set the steering wheel shift lever to the lower position and remove the trim.

Note: On cars equipped with an Airbag, first remove the lower part of the trim, push the pins in places 1 from the bottom up. Remove the upper part of the trim.

Squeeze the locking hooks on both sides and pull out the switch.

Release the cable ties. Disconnect the connector.

Installation

Insert the switch and snap it into the lock.



Connect the switch connector.

Secure the wires with clamps.

Screw on the steering column trim.

Install the steering wheel.

Connect the ground wire to the battery.

Check the operation of the direction indicators.
