The illustration shows the BMW 535L reservoir. For the location of the reservoir in other models, see the "Engine compartment" section.
To avoid burns, open the tank cap only after the engine has cooled down and the temperature gauge needle is in the first third of the scale.
First, turn the tank cap slightly counterclockwise to release excess pressure, then remove it.

Do not fill the fluid above the maximum permissible level, otherwise when the engine heats up, its excess will be removed through the valve.
Caution: Never add coolant when the engine is hot.
Antifreeze for the cooling system contains ethylene glycol, which does not freeze at low temperatures, and anti-corrosion additives. Addition of other additives is not required.
To avoid possible damage, use only BMW-certified long-term anti-corrosion antifreeze. Consult your BMW service station.
Warning: Coolant is poisonous. Keep it in tightly sealed original container out of reach of children.
The coolant should be replaced every two years.
Warning: Coolant contains flammable ethylene glycol. Do not spill it on hot engine parts as it may ignite and cause severe burns.
