Removal and installation the trunk lid (Limousine) (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Unfasten the cladding.

Remove the wiring harness from the boot lid. To do this, disconnect the plug connectors of the number plate light and the central locking system. Attach a tie cord to the plugs and remove the wiring harness.

Note: The tie-down cord remains in the luggage compartment lid and serves to facilitate subsequent assembly.

Mark the position of the trunk lid at the hinges. To do this, trace the perimeter of the hinge base with a felt-tip pen.

Support the trunk lid securely or have an assistant hold it.

Loosen screws "1" on the left and right, unscrew screws "2".

With the help of an assistant, remove the trunk lid.

Installation

Together with an assistant, place the luggage compartment lid, screw in screw "1", but do not tighten it.

Align the luggage compartment lid according to the marks made before removal and tighten the mounting screws.

If a new trunk lid is installed, it must be adjusted.

Using a tie-down cord, thread the wiring harness into the cover and connect the plug connectors of the license plate light and the central locking system.

Secure the trim, replace damaged clamps with new ones.
