Removal and installation gas-filled shock absorber of engine compartment hood/trunk lid (BMW 5 Series E39)
Removal
Open the hood/lid.

Trunk lid: Press the upper lock washer "1" to the side.
Remove spring clip "2" using a screwdriver
Press the shock absorber from the bottom off the spherical tip.
Note: The shock absorber is pre-compressed.
Installation

Insert the locking clamp "1" into the slot from the end and place the gas-filled shock absorber on the spherical tip. Then press the locking clamp upwards with a screwdriver.
At the top, place the shock absorber on the trunnion and press the spring clamp from the side.
