Removal and installation mirror glass (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Caution: Before removing the mirror glass, the car must be warmed up to room temperature (approximately +20°C). At low temperatures, the clamps can easily break.

Fold the mirror glass upward.

Mirror without automatic dimming system.



To avoid damage, cover the edges of the mirror and the edges of the mirror body with adhesive tape.

Press the mirror glass from below with a wooden wedge. The glass from below can also be unfastened and pulled out with your fingers.

Mirror with automatic dimming system

Using a small screwdriver, move the pin to the right, thereby opening the bayonet clamp, and press the mirror glass.

Disconnect the mirror heating system plug, unfasten and disconnect the automatic dimming system plug.



Remove the mirror glass.

Installation

Connect the mirror heating system plug, insert and secure the auto-dimming system plug.



Insert the mirror glass so that the locking clips are located above the protrusions.

Mirror without auto-dimming system

Press the mirror glass directly above the clamps and fix it. To avoid fingerprints, place a cloth underneath.

Mirror with automatic dimming system

Press the mirror glass. To avoid fingerprints, place a rag underneath. Use a small screwdriver to move the pin to the left until the pin is in a vertical position.

Check the operation of the outside rearview mirror.
