Removal and installation / adjustment of the door window glass (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Starting from the bottom, remove the outer seal of the window glass shaft with an upward movement.

Remove the inner door trim.

Caution: For vehicles with a side airbag, disconnect the battery ground cable - see chapter "Removal and installation the door lock". When working with an inflatable pillow, observe safety regulations.

Carefully detach the foam trim in the rear area of the door opening and tilt it forward so that the adjustment screws become accessible (see below fig. W-4B353), and in this position secure with adhesive tape "1".



Loosen the "arrow" screws of the clamping pads.



Tilt the window glass forward slightly and pull it out with a backwards upwards movement.

Installation

Insert the window glass into the clamping blocks.

Connect the two-position window switch. If disconnected, connect the battery ground wire.

Using the two-position switch, close the window glass, leaving a gap of 10 mm.



Adjust the window glass by setting the following gap values: A = 5.4 mm, B = 10 mm. To do this, move the window glass in the longitudinal direction with the clamping blocks loose or move the rear clamping block so that the edges of the window glass are parallel to the door frame. In this position, tighten the clamping screws to a torque of 10 Nm.

Disconnect the plug connector of the two-position window switch. If necessary, disconnect the battery ground wire.

Install door trim. If present, install side airbag.

Place the outer seal of the window glass shaft so that it fits tightly against the edge of the door at the back.
