Removal and installation the knock sensor (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Remove the intake manifold.



Location of the plug connectors located under the intake manifold, viewed from the front:

• 1 - for knock sensor (closed);
• 2 - for the crankshaft pulse sensor;
• 3 - for cylinder identification sensor.

Unfasten the plug connector "1" and disconnect the plug.



Unscrew the knock sensor. There are 2 sensors screwed into the cylinder block.

Warning: Changing the sensors during installation will damage the engine. Therefore, before removing, mark the connectors and the location of the pilots.

Installation

Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces of the cylinder block and the knock sensor.

Screw in the sensor and tighten to 20 Nm.

Attention: It is important to maintain the tightening torque value precisely, as this is important for the correct operation of the sensor. When screwing in, ensure exceptional cleanliness.

Connect and secure the plug connector.

Install the intake manifold.

Connect the negative (-) battery cable. Set the clock. Tune the radio to transmitting stations.
