Reading fault codes without a fault code reader - flash codes
Bosch Motronic 1.1 and 1.2 systems
By flashing the CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp installed on the instrument panel, only a limited number of flash codes associated with the exhaust system can be determined. Refer to the flash code table at the end of this chapter to determine the meaning of the codes.
Erasing fault codes without a code reader
Turn the ignition on and disconnect the negative cable from the battery for about 2 minutes.
Attention: The first disadvantage when using this method is that when the battery is disconnected, all adaptive values in the control unit will be erased. Re-memorization of the appropriate adaptive values requires a cold engine start and a 20-30 minute drive at various speeds and engine speeds. The engine should also run at idle for approximately 10 minutes. The second obstacle is that the security codes in the radio system will be erased, the clock setting and some other values \u200b\u200bthat will need to be restored after connecting the battery. Therefore, to erase the codes, if possible, use a fault code reader.
Self-diagnosis using a fault code reader
Attention: When carrying out certain checks, additional fault codes may be issued. You need to be careful that the issued codes do not mislead the inspector.
Connect the fault code reader to the self-diagnosis plug. Use the device for the purposes listed below, strictly following the instructions of the device manufacturers:
- reading fault codes;
- erasing fault codes;
- verification of actuators (drives);
- database mapping.
Attention: Most of the digits of the fault codes correspond to the pin number of the electronic control unit. For example, fault code 04 refers to pin number 4 of the control unit.
