Constant velocity joint of cardan transmission — removal and installation (BMW 7 Series E32)

Removal



Remove the driveshaft.

Remove the CV joint boot retaining clamp and the CV joint retaining ring.

On the precision bolt version of the joint, use a hacksaw to cut the plate that attaches the protective boot to the ball joint so that the puller levers can be inserted.

Remove the constant velocity joint with a universal joint puller.

On the hinge version with removable bolts, press out the bolts and detach the protective boot.

Installation



Apply grease to the new joint.

On vehicles with the removable bolt joint option, connect the joint to the boot and gasket, then press in the knurled bolts with the plate gaskets. Clean the shaft splines and apply sealant to them and to the CV joint splines.

Press the joint onto the shaft using a mandrel.

Install the retaining ring into the groove on the shaft.

Install the mounting clamp onto the hinge protective cover.

Install the cardan shaft.
