Gearbox housing — removal and installation (BMW 7 Series E32)

Removal



Secure the gearbox to the fixture.

Pour out the oil.

Remove the reverse light switch.

Remove the plug and take out the spring and retainer.

Remove the snap ring and washer from the input shaft.

Knock out the transmission housing cover centering pins.

Remove the front part of the gearbox housing.

Installation



Insert the intermediate shaft roller bearing with the small diameter facing up.

Apply sealant to the housing in the area of the reverse gear pin. The surface must be clean and degreased.

Remove the oil drain screw.

Place the front part of the crankcase on.

Position the intermediate shaft so that the rollers slide on the outer race of the bearing.

Bolt the front part of the crankcase to the gearbox cover. Install the retainer with the spring and insert the plug.

Install the spacer and protective rings on the input shaft.

Provide a gap of 0.09 mm.

Install the guide bushing with a new sealing ring.
