Removal and installation the starter (m54 engine)
1. Turn off the ignition.
Note: Follow the procedure for disconnecting and connecting the battery.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and cover the terminal.
3. Remove the receiver.
Note: Remove the starter from below.
4. Unscrew the nut (1).
Tightening torque:
- M5: 5 Nm.
- MB: 7 Nm.
- M8:13 Nm.
5. Disconnect the positive battery cable (2) from the starter.
Note:
- For clarity, the stiffening plate is not shown.
- Do not remove the stiffener plate.
6. Unscrew the screws (1).
Tightening torque: 45 Nm.
7. Pull the starter out of the transmission mount and rotate it to allow easier access to the control circuit wires on the starter.
8. Unscrew the nuts (1).
Tightening torque:
- M5: 5 Nm.
- MB: 7 Nm.
- M8: 13 Nm.
9. Disconnect the control circuit wires (2) from the starter. 10. Remove the starter.
Note: When installing, check the starter pinion and starter ring gear for damage.
11. Installation should be carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the above notes.
