Coolant pump — design description (BMW X5 E53)

The coolant pump is of the centrifugal type and is mounted on the front end wall of the engine cylinder block. The pump shaft is driven by a poly-V (multi-stream) belt simultaneously with the generator and the power steering pump from the crankshaft pulley (Fig. 6.13).



The layout of the coolant pump is shown in Figure 6.14.



The fan is controlled by a viscous clutch. The engines are equipped with a belt of the brand "Hutchin-son" the required belt tension is achieved by tightening the tension roller adjusting bolt to a torque of 8.0 N·m (0.8 kgf·m).
