Removal and installation the interior door trim panel (BMW 5 Series E28)

If your car radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have entered the correct code before disconnecting the battery cable. Refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument cluster language before disconnecting the wire.

If after connecting the wire, the inscriptions on your instrument panel appear in a language other than the one you need, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument cluster language, which describes the procedure for installing the required language.

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove all mounting screws from the door interior trim panel and the door handle and armrest assemblies.



3. On models with manual windows, remove the window lift handle.

4. On models with power windows, remove the switch assembly and disconnect it.

5. Release the door trim panel retaining clips. Do this around the entire edge of the panel to release the panel.

6. After disconnecting all the clamps, bend the trim panel, disconnect all electrical connectors and remove the panel from the vehicle.

7. To access the inside of the door, carefully remove the plastic seal.

Installation

1. Before installing the interior door trim panel, be sure to replace any panel clips that may have fallen out or broken during panel removal.

2. Connect the electrical connectors (where necessary) and place the panel on the door. Press the panel into place until the clips click into place, then install the door handle and armrest. Where necessary, install the window handle.
