Removal, installation and adjustment of the latch, lock cylinder and door handles (BMW 5 Series E28)

Typical door latch, lock cylinder and door handle parts.
Remove the trim panel(s) and the plastic door seal (see section Removal and installation the interior door trim panel).
Latch
1. Disconnect all rods from the latch.
2. Remove the latch mounting screws.
3. Disconnect the latch assembly and remove it.
4. Install in reverse order.
Lock cylinder
1. Disconnect the drive.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove the retaining clip and pull out the lock cylinder.
3. Install in reverse order.
Interior door handle
1. Disconnect the drive rod from the handle.
2. Remove the mounting screws and remove the handle from the door.
3. Install in reverse order.
External door handle
1. Lift the handle up to gain access, loosen the two mounting screws, then remove the handle from the door.
2. Install in reverse order
