Models «retro» (E28) use two separate blower motors: one for ventilation and heating. And another for air conditioning. Modern models (E34) have one blower motor. Removal and installation of a single supercharger motor, as well as a motor for ventilation and heating models «retro» described below. Removing and installing blower motor for air conditioning models «retro» described in Section Removal and installation of the accumulator / dehydrator of the air conditioning system of this Chapter.
If your car's radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have entered the correct code before disconnecting the battery.
If, after connecting the battery, the inscriptions on the instrument panel appear in the wrong language, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language, for instructions on how to set the desired language.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. The blower motor is located behind the bulkhead, under the access panel. Loosen the front panel mounting screws...
...and top mount hold this panel
3. Disconnect or cut the plastic fasteners holding the wiring to the panel and move the wiring aside.
4. Remove the panel.
5. Unfasten the fastening clip of the blower casing, as well as the clip holding the blower motor.
6. Disconnect the wiring and remove the blower motor.
Examination
You can test the blower motor by applying battery voltage to the motor terminals using the bundled wires from the jump start kit (make sure the fan blades don't hit anything while spinning). If the blower motor rotates the fan blades at high speed (this test is designed for its high speed performance), which means it is correct. If the motor does not run, or runs slowly or noisily, replace it.
If fan blade assemblies need to be removed, mark their location on the shaft. These assemblies have been balanced at the factory, and if they are not set in exactly the same position with respect to the shaft, this can result in excessive running noise or premature bearing wear.
Installation
Install in reverse order.
It may be necessary to turn the blower motor to properly install the mounting clip.
