The seat belt buckle should click into place with an audible click when fastened.
Unfastening the belt - press the red button in the lock and, slightly guiding the belt, feed it into the automatic retractor.
Fasten the seat belt without twisting it and pull it across your hips and shoulder. Do not place it on hard or fragile objects in your pockets. The seat belt adapts to every movement of the body.
The belt should fit as tightly as possible to the body; therefore, before fastening your seat belt, remove clothing made of particularly thick or bulky material, and do not recline the seat back too far.
The belt should always fit as tightly as possible to the body (the seat back tilt should be slight) for the following reasons. In frontal collisions, the lap belt strap may slip off the hips and injure the lower abdomen. The restraining effect of the belts is delayed due to increased play. Pregnant women should also always wear a seat belt and ensure that the lap belt is positioned at the bottom of the hips and not on the lower abdomen.
Individual adjustment of the seat belt is achieved by changing the height of its upper fastening.
One seat belt can only be used to secure one person.
The seat belt should not be placed around the neck, pinched or rubbed against sharp edges.
It is not permitted to place infants and small children on your lap while driving.
For children under 12 years of age, use appropriate safety systems.
The safety of infants up to 9 months can be ensured by using special baby cradles installed against the direction of travel of the vehicle on the front or rear seats and fastened with standard seat belts.
For children aged nine months to three years and three to six years, you can use the BMW VARIO system, which is installed in the forward-facing position using the standard seat belt.
You can also use a seat for children aged two to twelve years, consisting of three parts - a seat basket, a backrest and a catcher.
This seat is secured in the forward direction using the standard seat belt.
When using child restraint systems, always follow the manufacturer's instructions. The required anchor points are located in the rear of the passenger compartment behind the front seats as standard.
It is prohibited to make any structural changes to the seat belt system or child restraint systems.
If the seat belt system, including the inertia reel tensioner (is under development), and the child restraint system* were damaged or subjected to critical stress as a result of an accident, they must be replaced with new ones and the belt fastenings must be checked. Have the repair and inspection carried out by specialists at a BMW service centre.
When the inertial belt tensioner is engaged, there is a gap of 20 mm between the lock and the casing.
The seat belt locks when:
- sharp pulling of the belt;
- sudden braking or acceleration;
- moving along a curve;
- strong tilt of the car.
