0 - Steering is locked.
The key can only be inserted or removed in this position. The current consumers are switched off, however, some of them can be switched on, for example, the parking and side lights, interior lighting, the hazard warning light system, the electric seat adjustment drive and the cigarette lighter.
Blocking
Pull out the key and turn the steering wheel slightly until the lock engages.
Unblocking
While turning the steering wheel slightly to the right and left, turn the key.
1 - Steering unlocked
- In this position, an additional number of consumers can operate, for example, a radio receiver and an on-board computer.
2 — Ignition on BMW 525tds - preheat;
- All current consumers are connected.
A well-charged battery is a prerequisite for the comfort that electrical equipment provides you with. When idling, the battery is only slightly charged.
Therefore, we recommend that, unless absolutely necessary, when driving in the city, in a convoy, etc., you temporarily switch off equipment with high current consumption (for example, heated seat, rear window).
In order to store information in the memory of individual devices, a small current is continuously supplied to the electrical system. This circumstance should be taken into account especially when the car is parked for a long time for more than four weeks. Beforehand, in order to avoid discharging the battery, disconnect it from the on-board network.
3 - Turn on the starter.
Do not press the accelerator pedal when starting.
On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the engine can only be started when the gearshift lever is in position P or N.
Important information
Warning - never start the engine indoors. Exhaust gases contain colorless, odorless, poisonous carbon monoxide. Inhaling exhaust gases is harmful to health, can cause unconsciousness and lead to death.
Never remove the key while the vehicle is moving, as this may cause the steering wheel lock to engage.
When leaving the vehicle, be sure to remove the key from the ignition and lock the steering wheel shaft.
