Removal and installation glow plugs — model 530d (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Turn off the ignition.

Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. The battery is located in the luggage compartment behind the right side trim.

Caution: This will erase the contents of memory devices, such as the engine fault code memory device. Follow the instructions in the chapter "Removing and installing the battery".

To avoid accidental electrical contact, the negative terminal of the battery must be covered.

Remove the intake manifold.



Squeeze the clamps "arrow" of plug "1". Remove plugs "1" from the glow plugs.



Using the BMW key 11 6 050 "A", unscrew the glow plugs "1".

Note: The hole in the key must be at least 20 mm deep, if necessary, deepen the hole using a 9.5 mm drill to the specified depth.

Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order. The tightening torque of the glow plugs should be 23±3 Nm.

Caution: Never exceed the tightening torque of the glow plugs, otherwise the plugs will be damaged and fail during operation.
