Checking/Removing and Installing Fuel Solenoid Switch — Model 525tds (BMW 5 Series E39)
The electromagnetic switch opens the fuel supply channel to the high-pressure fuel pump when the ignition is turned on. The electromagnetic valve must be checked if the engine does not start or continues to run after the ignition is turned off.
Turn the ignition on and off. The electromagnetic switch should click noticeably.
Otherwise, unscrew the electrical wire fastening and connect the voltage from the positive pole of the battery to the electromagnetic switch using an auxiliary wire.
If the electromagnetic switch now operates, check the electrical wires according to the electrical diagram and replace them if necessary. If the electromagnetic switch does not operate even though the electrical wiring is in good condition, it must be replaced.
Unscrew the electrical wire fastening and turn out the electromagnetic switch "1".
Remove the piston and valve spring and insert into the new electromagnetic switch. Make sure the sealing ring is correctly positioned.
Screw the new electromagnetic switch into the fuel pump and tighten it to 20 Nm.
Connect the electrical wire to the electromagnetic switch.
