Removal and installation the torsional vibration damper (BMW 7 Series E38)

1. Remove the cooling system fan drive clutch (see section Removal and installation the fan drive clutch Chapters Engine cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems).

2. Remove the drive belts (see section Removal and installation drive belts).

3. Remove the left and right front wheel arch liners.



4. Unscrew the bolt and remove the holder.



5. Move aside the air duct for blowing the generator, as well as the left and right channels for blowing the brake mechanisms.



6. Remove the water pump pulley.





7. Remove the central pulley bolt.



8. Holding the damper with tool No.11 2 420, unscrew the damper's central bolt and remove it.

To avoid damaging the engine mount, place a wooden shim between it and the fixture.

9. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Use new central bolt for fastening the vibration damper.
