Removal and installation of exhaust manifolds (BMW 7 Series E38)
1. Remove the intake pipes and the additional air supply pipe (see section Removal and installation the SAI air blower Chapters Fuel and exhaust systems).
1. Loosen the lower nuts of the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.7-9 and remove it.
2. Remove the heater valve block assembly from the holder and place it on the manifold (see paragraphs 3-5 of Section Removal and installation the torsional vibration damper and its hub).
3. Loosen the upper nuts securing the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.10-12, remove the heat shield, loosen the lower nuts and remove the manifold.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the threads of the studs with copper paste, use new manifold mounting nuts. Install the gaskets with the smooth side facing the cylinder head.
1. Loosen the lower nuts of the exhaust manifold (1) of cylinders No.1-3 and remove it.
2. Remove the starter heat shield.
3. Loosen the upper nuts securing the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.4-6, remove the heat shield, loosen the lower nuts and remove the manifold.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the threads of the studs with copper paste, use new manifold mounting nuts. Install the gaskets with the smooth side facing the cylinder head.
Right bank cylinder manifolds

1. Loosen the lower nuts of the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.7-9 and remove it.
2. Remove the heater valve block assembly from the holder and place it on the manifold (see paragraphs 3-5 of Section Removal and installation the torsional vibration damper and its hub).

3. Loosen the upper nuts securing the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.10-12, remove the heat shield, loosen the lower nuts and remove the manifold.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the threads of the studs with copper paste, use new manifold mounting nuts. Install the gaskets with the smooth side facing the cylinder head.
Left bank cylinder manifolds

1. Loosen the lower nuts of the exhaust manifold (1) of cylinders No.1-3 and remove it.
2. Remove the starter heat shield.

3. Loosen the upper nuts securing the exhaust manifold of cylinders No.4-6, remove the heat shield, loosen the lower nuts and remove the manifold.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the threads of the studs with copper paste, use new manifold mounting nuts. Install the gaskets with the smooth side facing the cylinder head.
