Attention:
- Although R 134a is not toxic, flammable or explosive in any proportion to air at normal temperatures, certain safety precautions must be taken when handling it.
- The charged refrigerant circuit of the air conditioner is under pressure. When repairing an air conditioner, the refrigerant must be pumped out.
- Avoid working on charged air conditioners and in areas where R 134a leaks may occur if these operations involve welding or soldering. Contact with flame or exposure to high temperatures (50°C) may produce toxic decomposition products (fluoride gas). Therefore, smoking during such work is also prohibited.
- R 134a is pumped out using a service station in accordance with the operating instructions and, after purification, is used again to fill the air conditioner.
- Avoid any contact with R 134a refrigerant, whether in liquid or gaseous form. When working on the refrigerant circuit, wear gloves and safety glasses. R 134a may cause frostbite if in contact with skin. Affected areas of the body should be thoroughly washed with cold water. If R 134a gets into your eyes, rinse with plenty of water. Contact lenses must be removed before rinsing the eyes. After this, consult a doctor immediately. If you experience any discomfort due to inhalation of R 134a vapours, consult a doctor immediately.
- R 134a is a colorless and odorless gas. This gas is heavier than air. If released into the atmosphere, it can cause suffocation or heart rhythm disturbances without being noticed. This danger is especially great in inspection pits. Therefore, the room where the work is carried out must be well ventilated. Any exhaust systems present in the room must be switched on.
- An essential condition for satisfactory operation of the air conditioner is maintaining cleanliness when working on it, as well as thorough vacuuming (removing moisture from the refrigerant circuit for at least 30 minutes) system before filling it.
- R 134a is highly hygroscopic. Therefore, open holes in pipelines, the condenser, the evaporator, the compressor and the dehydrator tank must be immediately sealed with plugs.
- When replacing parts, remove the plugs immediately before connecting the spare part to the pipelines.
- In case of warranty, the removed part must be provided with plugs. Without this, it will be impossible to determine the cause of the damage.
- If the air conditioner has been completely drained due to a leak, accident, or repair, the dehumidifier should be replaced because too much moisture may have entered the system.
- Filled and pressurized containers containing refrigerant should be stored in a manner that prevents exposure to direct sunlight or other heat sources (max. 45°C). Mechanical impacts should also be avoided (for example, falls).
- Suitable extinguishing media in case of fire: carbon dioxide (CO₂) extinguishing powder or water from a spray. Cool damaged tanks only with water from a spray bottle (risk of cracking).
