Coolant (antifreeze) (BMW X5 E53)

The cooling liquid (antifreeze) used in engines is based on a mixture of antifreeze, anticorrosive liquid and softened water. When replacing antifreeze, be sure to flush the cooling system with softened water. Let the engine run for 3-5 minutes, drain the water and blow out the system with compressed air.

The following brands of antifreeze are certified by BMW:
  • Aral Antifreeze Extra (Aral Lubricants GmbH);
  • BP Napgel C 2270-1 (BP Chemicals);
  • Caltex CX Engine Coolant (CALTEX. Dallas);
  • DEA Kuehlerfrostschutz (DEA Mine- raloel AG);
  • FINA TERMIDOR (FINA Europe SA, Bruessel);
  • Glycoshell (Shell Austria AG);
  • Mobil Frostschutz 600 (Mobil Schmierstoff GmbH);
  • Total Multiprotect (TOTAL Deutschland GmbH);
  • Veedol ANTIFREEZE NF (Burmah Oil Technology GmbH).

The capacity of the engine cooling system, including the interior heater, is 9.5 liters. The coolant replacement frequency is every 2 years of operation.
