Replacing the cooling system thermostat (BMW X5 E53)

The thermostat is built into the housing and can only be replaced as an assembly. The cooling system thermostat must be replaced in the following order. Drain the coolant and send it for disposal.

Remove the EGR fan and radiator. Remove the retainer and disconnect the coolant hose.

Remove the bolts (6, see Fig. 6.14), carefully remove the thermostat housing, moving it to the side.

Caution! Be careful, there is a risk of damage to the cooling system tube.

When installing, clean the sealing surfaces and replace the sealing gasket (5). Assemble the engine and check the engine cooling system for leaks.
