Replacing the coolant pump (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Attention! When working on the oil, fuel and coolant circuit, protect the generator from contamination. Avoid damaging the sealing surfaces on the engine crankcase.

The coolant pump must be replaced in the following order: Remove the fan casing and the fan itself. Remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt and the generator drive belt.

Remove the "AGR" system radiator (only with automatic transmission) and the cooling system thermostat. Protect the generator with polyethylene film.

Remove the bolts (3, see Fig. 6.14) fastenings of the cooling system pump (1) and remove it.

Cut the jumpers accordingly (1, Fig. 6.96) sealing gasket (2). Cut the sealing gasket web with a small chisel, remove the old seal and clean the sealing surface

The installation of the coolant pump should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary. Replace the sealing gasket, having previously applied it to the sealing surface of the crankcase and checked its correct fit. Assemble the engine.
