Attention!
- The coolant should be replaced only on a cold engine, due to the possibility of steam burns.
- Protect the generator from contamination.
- Install a container to collect the coolant at the drain point.
- On a car equipped with a manual transmission, unscrew the cap on the expansion tank of the radiator of the cooling system.
- Fill in coolant only approved by the company «BMW», follows through the expansion tank of the cooling system.
- The drained coolant must be disposed of.
- The mark on the expansion tank of the cooling system shows the maximum liquid level in the system at a temperature of 20°C.
Draining the coolant from must be carried out in the following order. Remove the soundproof cover, engine accessory protection panel and reinforcement plate.
Remove the cap on the expansion tank of the cooling system. Unscrew the screw plug (1, fig. 6.97) drain hole at the bottom of the cooling system radiator.
Remove the cork (10, see fig. 6.2) drain hole on the cylinder block on the right side.
Loosen the screws (1 and 2, fig. 6.98), designed to remove air.
Drain the coolant and send it for recycling. Replace seal gasket (M14x1.5) cylinder block and tighten it to 25 Nm (2.5 kgf·m).
Filling the coolant in must be carried out through the neck of the expansion tank in the following order. Replace the drain seal at the bottom of the radiator and tighten its plug to 2.5 Nm (0.25 kgf·m).
Turn on the ignition. Set the heater control to the highest temperature and the fan to the lowest speed. At the same time, the valves of the heater block open and its additional pump starts to work. Remove the screw (1 and 2) to remove air from the engine cooling system.
Slowly fill the coolant through the neck of the expansion tank of the radiator to the maximum mark. Wait until coolant comes out through the radiator expansion tank vent without air bubbles. Tighten the vent plug to 8.0 Nm (0.8 kgf·m).
Close the expansion tank of the cooling system. Bleed the engine cooling system and check for leaks. Start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature and check the tightness of the cooling system and the level in the expansion tank of the cooling system.
