Replacing the electric fan casing with its drive (BMW X5 E53)

The replacement of the electric fan casing with its drive must be carried out in the following order.

Read information from the fault memory of the ECU KSUD (DME). Turn off the ignition.

Caution! Do not place the front center section on the terminals of the forced starting system. Do not bend the hood latch drive cables.


Remove the front center section (closing beam). Unlock and disconnect the shock absorber (2, Fig. 5.169) from the sensor of the "AUC" system. Release the sensor (3) of the "AUC" system from the clamps and move it to the side.

Lift the electric fan (4) in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fold the fastening loop (5) in the direction indicated by the left arrow. Carefully press the cooling system hose (6) to the side. Remove the electric fan by moving it upwards.

When installing, place the fastening loops (1 and 5) behind the module bracket. When replacing the fan casing, remove the "AUC" system sensor and move it to the new casing. Upon completion of engine assembly, check the operation of the "DME" and erase the information from the fault memory.
