Attention! All work must be carried out only on a cold engine due to the likelihood of burns from coolant vapors.
Replacement of the thermostat of the engine cooling system must be carried out in the following order. Remove the front engine accessory guard. Remove the coolant drain plug from the radiator. Drain the coolant and send it for recycling. Unlock and disconnect the loop (1, fig. 5.166) temperature sensor from the thermostat housing. Disconnect the pipe (2) cooling system and unscrew the nut (arrow).
Note. The thermostat is built into the cover and can only be replaced as an assembly.
Loosen thermostat cover screws (3) and remove the cover together with the thermostat. Check thermostat operation. Clean the seating surfaces on the thermostat housing from dirt and traces of oil. Replace o-ring (1. fig. 5.167).
Fill the engine cooling system, remove air from the cooling system (pump her up) and check the system for leaks. If there is leakage, slightly tighten the mounting bolts.
Check the operation of the viscous coupling (turning on the fan), whether the temperature has risen in the lower part of the radiator and whether the thermostat housing is sealed.
