Replacing the oil dipstick guide tube seal (BMW X5 E53)

The oil dipstick guide tube seal must be replaced in the following order: Remove the intake manifold, drain the engine oil and send it for disposal. Unlock and disconnect the vacuum line (1, Fig. 5.159). Loosen the screws and remove the shut-off valve (2).

Remove the guide tube (3) of the oil dipstick by moving it upwards.

When installing the guide tube, it is necessary:
  • replace the guide tube sealing ring, which should be pre-lubricated with engine oil;
  • replace the sealing ring on the shut-off valve tube, which should first be lubricated with engine oil.

Assemble the engine and check it for leaks.
