Spark plugs — general information (BMW X5 E53)

Spark plugs with a triangular "mass" electrode, made with a mounting thread for a 16 mm key. Standard for "N62" engines are F7 LDCR spark plugs from "Bosch" (Germany), but BKR 6 EK (USA) brands can be installed, with a gap of 0.7–0.8 mm.

The gap between the electrodes of a spark plug with a triangular ground electrode is not adjustable.

The spark plug replacement interval is 20,000 km.

Resistance of the main components of the ignition system:

• crankshaft speed pulse sensor 1280±128 Ohm;
• cylinder recognition pulse sensor:
• between terminals 1 and 2 – less than 1.0 Ohm;
• between terminals 2 and 3 – more than 10.0 mOhm;
• engine temperature sensor:
• at T = 20±3°C – 2.2 – 2.7 kOhm;
• at T = 80±3°C – 2.2 – 2.7 kOhm;
• incoming air temperature sensor:
• at T = 20±3°C – 2.2 – 2.7 kOhm;
• at T = 50±3°C – 0.76 – 0.91 kOhm.
