Removal and installation the generator (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The N62 engine is equipped with a three-phase alternating voltage generator with a built-in rectifier unit on nine rectifier valves, with a nominal output current of 150 A and an electronic voltage regulator with an adjustment range of 13.5–14.1 V. Cooling of the generator is provided by supplying an air flow to it.

Warning! Perform generator replacement work only on a cold engine. There is a risk of burns from coolant vapors.

The generator replacement must be carried out in the following order. Read information from the ECU-KSUD fault memory. Turn off the ignition, disconnect the "minus" terminal from the battery and insulate it.

Remove the air filter housing and the electric fan with the casing. Remove the alternator drive belt and disconnect the SS from the alternator. Unscrew the nut, remove the drive from the positive terminal of the battery and move it to the side.

Remove the screws (1, Fig. 5.180) and remove the generator (2).

Remove the screws (1, Fig. 5.180) and remove the generator (2).

When replacing the generator, the idler pulley (3) should be moved to the new generator, and replaced if necessary. After installing the generator, check the operation of the "DME" system.
