Replacing the crankshaft speed sensor (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The crankshaft speed sensor is installed on the automatic transmission housing at the bottom right, it must be replaced in the following order. Read information from the fault memory of the DME ECU KSUD. Turn off the ignition, unlock the SS (1, Fig. 5.186) and disconnect it from the engine crankshaft speed sensor. Unscrew the bolt (arrow) and remove the sensor together with the adjusting washers (if they are installed) from the gearbox housing.

When replacing the gearbox, drive disk or toothed wheel of the crankshaft speed sensor, it is necessary to pay attention to the presence of adjusting washers between the gearbox housing and the sensor, which regulate the size of the gap between the end of the sensor and the teeth of its disk (0.55±0.2 mm).

Replace the sealing ring and bolt (M6) securing the sensor, apply sealant to its threaded part and tighten it to a torque of 10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m).

After replacing the engine crankshaft speed sensor, it is necessary to read the fault information from the memory of the ECU-KSUD of the "DME" system. Eliminate the faults and erase the fault information from the memory of the memory.
