Removal the automatic transmission (BMW 3 Series E21)
Disconnect the rod from the throttle control sector and remove it from the intermediate support.
Remove the upper bolts securing the gearbox housing to the engine block.
Loosen the bolt securing the oil filler pipe bracket to the gearbox housing.
Drain the oil from the gearbox.
Remove the exhaust pipe mounting bracket.
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
Disconnect the propeller shaft from the gearbox.
Disconnect the flexible speedometer drive shaft and remove it from the bracket on the transmission oil pan.
Unscrew the bolts securing the crossmember of the intermediate support of the propeller shaft to the body.
Lower the front propeller shaft and disconnect the gear selector rod from the gear selector lever.
Remove the oil filler tube and disconnect the lines leading to the oil cooler.
Remove the protective shield installed between the engine block and the gearbox housing.
Loosen the four bolts securing the torque converter to the drive flange one by one, each time turning the engine crankshaft by the pulley.
Place a support under the gearbox and disconnect the gearbox from the body crossmember.
Remove the remaining bolts securing the gearbox housing to the engine block.
Remove the ventilation grille from the gearbox housing.
Use a screwdriver to separate the transmission housing and engine block by moving the torque converter away.
Remove the gearbox.
Carefully remove the torque converter using the 244000 mounting handles.
Lock the ring gear.
Remove the drive disk by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
Replace the drive disc.
Tighten the new drive plate mounting bolts, applying a sealant such as Loctite 270 to their threads.
Carefully insert the torque converter into the housing and install the torque converter by rocking it slightly. Use the 244000 mounting handles to perform this operation.

Removal the drive disc
Lock the ring gear.
Remove the drive disk by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
Installing the drive disk
Replace the drive disc.
Tighten the new drive plate mounting bolts, applying a sealant such as Loctite 270 to their threads.
Installing a torque converter
Carefully insert the torque converter into the housing and install the torque converter by rocking it slightly. Use the 244000 mounting handles to perform this operation.
