- Pit, oil pump or hydraulic lift with stands.
- 17 or 19 mm wrench socket and 5 to 8 liter oil drain pan (if the oil is not pumped out).
The following wear parts are required:
- When draining oil: aluminum O-ring for drain plug. The oil drain plug has an external thread of 12 mm, the o-ring is A12x15.5 and is sometimes supplied with the oil filter.
- Oil filter cartridge.
- Cover seal (o-ring) filter housing and central bolt O-ring.
- Filling capacity, depending on the type of engine, from 4.25 to 6 liters. Fill only with oils recommended by BMW.
Oil quantity (with filter change)
The difference between the MIN and MAX marks on the oil dipstick is about 1 liter.
The oil is changed according to the service interval indicator or every 10,000 km on a petrol engine and every 7,500 km on a diesel engine. With a low annual mileage, the oil is changed once a year. The oil filter cartridge is replaced at the same time.
Under severe operating conditions, such as short journeys, frequent cold starts and very dusty roads, change the oil and oil filter more frequently.
Oil can also be pumped out with a probe (at a gas station) through the oil dipstick tube. At the same time, new oil can also be purchased at the same gas station.
Attention: Old oil is handed over to special waste collection points. In places where oil is sold, a certain amount of old oil is used to pay for new oil. Therefore, do not throw away the receipt and the canister for later change! The address of the nearest point can be found in the city or village administration. Under no circumstances should the old oil be thrown out and disposed of with household waste. This causes irreparable harm to the environment, such as pollution of water bodies.
