- A pit, an oil pump or a hydraulic lift with supports.
- A 17 or 19 mm wrench head and a 5 to 8 litre oil drain vessel (if the oil is not pumped out).
The following wearing parts are required:
- When pumping out oil: aluminum sealing ring for drain plug. The oil drain plug has an external thread of 12 mm, the sealing ring is A12x15.5 and is sometimes supplied with the oil filter.
- Oil filter cartridge.
- Lid seal (ring round section) filter housings and central bolt sealing ring.
- The filling capacity, depending on the engine type, is from 4.25 to 6 liters. Fill only with oil grades recommended by BMW.
Amount of oil (with filter replacement)
The difference between the MIN and MAX marks on the oil dipstick is about 1 liter.
The oil is changed according to the indications of the service interval indicator or on a petrol engine every 10,000 km and on a diesel engine every 7,500 km. With a low annual mileage, the oil is changed once a year. At the same time, the oil filter cartridge is replaced.
Under severe operating conditions, such as short distance travel, frequent cold engine starts and very dusty roads, the oil and oil filter should be changed more frequently.
Oil can also be pumped out using a probe (at the gas station) through the oil dipstick tube. At the same time, new oil can be purchased at the same filling station.
Attention: Old oil is handed over to special waste collection points. At the places where oil is sold, a certain amount of old oil is used to pay for new oil. Therefore, do not throw away the receipt and canister for subsequent delivery! The address of the nearest point can be found out at the city or village administration. Under no circumstances pour out old oil or throw it away with household garbage. This causes irreparable harm to the environment, for example, pollution of water bodies.
