- Screw the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten the plug well, but without undue force. Plug tightening torque wrench 17: 30 Nm, wrench 19: 60 Nm.
- Fill in new oil through the oil filler neck on the cylinder head cover).
- Start the engine and leave it to run at higher speeds (about 2500 rpm) until the control lamp of the lubrication system on the dashboard goes out (about 5 seconds).
- After a 5-minute pause, check the oil level with an oil dipstick.
After a test drive, check the oil drain plug and oil filter for leaks and, if necessary, tighten carefully.
- Switch off the engine warmed up to operating temperature, and after 2 minutes check the oil level again, correct if necessary.
- Diesel engine: Install engine compartment undertray.
- If you want to reset the service interval indicator. This usually requires a special tool available from BMW (Expensive). In addition, the indicator can be reset free of charge at a BMW workshop.
- To control the operation of the engine, an oil change must be made with the same type of oil and preferably the same brand. Therefore, it is advisable to fix a plate on the engine indicating the brand and viscosity of the filled oil.
- It is not recommended to fill in indiscriminately different types of oil. It is impossible to mix oils of the same type, but different brands. It is allowed to mix, if necessary, during the transitional period between different seasons, oils of the same type and brand, but of different viscosities.
