Removal and installation the trunk lid (BMW 3 Series E46)

Trunk lid, hinges and gas-filled shock absorber

Removal

1. Disconnect the trunk lid trim, refer to Section Removal and installation the trunk lid trim.

2. Pull the cable harness out of the trunk lid. To do this, disconnect the plug connections of the license plate light and the single lock. Secure the cord to the plugs and pull the harness out.

The cord remains in the trunk lid and serves to facilitate the installation of cables.

3. Mark the position of the trunk lid at the hinges. To do this, trace the hinge strip with a felt-tip pen.



4. Support the trunk lid securely and have an assistant hold it.

5. Loosen the screws on the left and right "2", unscrew the screw "3", 4 - stop.

Installation

7. Put the trunk lid back in place with the help of an assistant. Screw in screw "2" without tightening it.

8. Align the trunk lid according to the markings and secure it.

9. If the cover has been replaced, adjust it.

10. Insert the electric wires of the license plate light and the single lock with the help of a cord into the trunk lid and connect them.

11. Secure the trim, replace damaged clamps.
