Removal and installation the trunk lid lock/cylinder (BMW 3 Series E46)

Removal



1. Remove the trunk lid trim, refer to Section Removal and installation the trunk lid trim.

2. Remove the right rear light bulb holder, refer to Section Replacement of incandescent lamps for outdoor lighting.

3. Disconnect the rear light cable at the lock cylinder cover.

3. Disconnect the rear light cable at the lock cylinder cover.


4. Unscrew the two screws securing the lock cylinder cover. Pull the cover from the right side away from the sheet and detach it from the hole. Remove the cover from the side from the guides and remove it.

5. Disconnect connector "1".

6. Remove lock "2" and disconnect rod "3" at the lock cylinder.

7. Remove screws "5".

8. Turn the lock cylinder to the right so that the guides are in the cutouts of the sheet, then remove the cylinder downwards.

9. Disconnect the connector at the trunk lid lock.

9. Disconnect the connector at the trunk lid lock.


10. Loosen the screws securing the lock to the trunk lid and remove it through the hole in the sheet.



11. Disconnect the drive rod lock, disconnect the rod and remove the lock.

Installation



12. Connect the rod to the lock, connect the lock.

13. Insert the lock and secure it with screws. Connect the connector.

14. Insert the lock cylinder into the body cutouts, turn to the left and secure. If the lock cylinder is replaced, replace the rubber bushing in the trunk lid.

Check the operation of the lock and cylinder with the trunk lid open.


15. Connect the lock to the drive rod, restore the lock.

16. Connect the connector.

17. Insert the lock cylinder cover on the left into the guides, press on the right and snap into place. Secure the cover with two screws.

18. Connect the electrical wires of the rear light at the cover.

19. Install the tail light bulb holder, refer to Section Replacement of incandescent lamps for outdoor lighting.

20. Install the trunk lid trim, refer to Section Removal and installation the trunk lid trim.
