Instruments and electrical equipment
1. Check the operation of appliances and electrical equipment.
2. Make sure. that all devices give the correct readings, turn on all the electrical equipment in turn and make sure that. that it works flawlessly.
Steering and suspension
3. Pay attention to any abnormalities in the steering and suspension.
4. While driving, pay attention to unusual noises and vibrations.
5. Make sure that the steerable wheels track the steering wheel without noticeable play and without sticking, that the suspension does not make noise when turning sharply and when driving over bumps.
Power transmission
6. Check the operation of the engine, clutch (if there), gearboxes and drive shafts.
7. Listen to the engine, clutch and transmission for any unusual noises.
8. Check that the engine idles smoothly and accelerates smoothly.
9. Check up noiselessness of operation of coupling. Make sure that when the clutch is released, the torque transmission increases gradually, without jerks or vibrations. Listen, there is no noise when you squeeze the clutch.
10. On models with a manual transmission, check the gear shift - they should switch easily and without crackling.
11. On models with automatic transmission, make sure that gear shifting occurs smoothly, without jerks and without overshooting the engine speed. With the vehicle stopped, make sure that the selector lever can be easily switched to all positions. If you experience any problems with the transmission, contact a specialized service station or dealer.
Brakes
12. Check if the vehicle is driving to one side when braking. Do the wheels lock up during emergency braking?
13. Check up, whether at braking vibration of a steering wheel is felt.
14. Make sure that the handbrake holds the vehicle securely on the slope and does not require too much lever travel to brake.
15. Check up work of the vacuum amplifier of brakes as follows. Stop the engine and depress the brake pedal four or five times to release the vacuum from the booster. While holding the brake pedal down, start the engine. As the vacuum builds up, the pedal will noticeably fail. Let the engine run for a couple of minutes and turn off the ignition. If you now press the brake pedal, then a hiss will be heard from the side of the vacuum booster. After four or five pedal presses, the hissing will stop and the pedal will become "tough".
