2. Drain the differential lubricating fluid (see chapter Routine car maintenance).
3. Separate the drive shaft from the differential (see section Removal and installation drive shafts) and hang it on a piece of wire away from the work area. Do not leave it hanging without support, as it may get damaged.

4. Using a suitable pry bar or large screwdriver, pry the flange off the differential - be prepared to grab the flange as it separates.

5. Using a small screwdriver, remove the flange retaining ring.
6. Inspect the flange shaft. If it has a groove where it contacts the seal, replace the flange.

7. Remove the old seal with a special tool or a large screwdriver. Make sure not to scratch the seal seats in the differential housing.

8. Coat the new seal with differential lubricant, then use a large socket or piece of pipe and a hammer to tap the seal into place. Make sure the seal is seated correctly (with lips inward).
9. Insert the new snap ring into the groove, making sure both ends are fully seated in the groove.
10. Coat the seal lip with grease, then install the differential flange. Push the flange in until you feel the retaining ring snap into place.
11. Proceed with the rest of the installation procedure in the reverse order of removal.
