2. Drain the differential fluid (see chapter Car maintenance).
3. Separate the drive shaft from the differential (see Section Removal and installation of power shafts) and hang it on a piece of wire away from the work area. Do not leave it hanging unsupported as it may be damaged.
4. Use a suitable lever or large screwdriver to remove the flange from the differential - be prepared to catch the flange when it comes off.
5. Use a small screwdriver to remove the flange circlip.
6. Inspect the flange shaft. If a groove was worn on it at the point of contact with the gland, replace the flange.
7. Remove the old oil seal with a special tool or a large screwdriver. Make sure not to scratch the seal seats in the differential case.
8. Coat the new oil seal with differential lubricant, then use a large replacement head or piece of pipe and a hammer to install the oil seal in place. Make sure the seal is installed correctly (sponges inside).
9. Insert a new circlip into the groove. Make sure both ends are fully seated in the groove.
10. Coat the seal lip with grease, then install the differential flange. Push the flange inward until you feel the circlip snap into place.
11. Follow the rest of the installation procedure in the reverse order of removal.
