1 - Buttons for entering numerical values
2 - Button for switching units of measurement
3 - Display
4 - Automatic display brightness control (phototransistor)
5 - Button "Start/Stop" ("S/R" or "START/RESET")
6 - Indicators (LEDs)
7 - Function buttons.
To help the driver drive safely and economically, the following information can be called up on the display:
- UHR/DAT - Time and date
- VERBR - Two values of average fuel consumption
- REICHW - Estimated maximum range for a given fuel capacity (power reserve)
- GESCHW - Average speed
- A-TEMP - Outside temperature
- ZEIT - Stopwatch or timer to turn on auxiliary heater/ventilation
- ANK - Estimated Time of Arrival at Destination
- DIST - Remaining distance to destination
- LIMIT - Maximum allowable speed
- CODE - Passcode
The on-board computer turns on, starting with the ignition key set to the "1".
For traffic safety reasons, enter the values before driving or after stopping the vehicle.
The following data can be called up on the display using the corresponding function keys:
- average speed
- Average fuel consumption (on two stretches of the road)
- Power reserve
- Outside temperature.
By pressing the desired function button and then the button "S/R" (5), you can restart or stop:
- Average speed calculation
- Calculation of average fuel consumption 1 or 2
- Stopwatch or timer.
Entering the following numerical values is written off below:
- Time and date
- speed limit
- Heater / ventilation start times 1 or 2
- Distances to destination (to calculate arrival time)
- Passcode.
With the unit selection button, after first pressing the desired function button, the display (except for the passcode) will be produced in either metric or imperial units.
Remote control
Press the turn signal switch:
Additionally, the instrument cluster displays data that will appear sequentially (except BMW 5201). In this case, the indication on the computer display is independent of the indication on the instrument cluster.
Switching off the display on the instrument cluster: press the self-diagnosis button ("SNESK-CONTRTOL") on the instrument cluster or on the button "CODE".
Note: The messages of the self-monitoring system take precedence over the on-board computer information and replace it if necessary.
If you need to call up certain information on the instrument cluster, proceed as follows:
- Press the turn signal lever for 3 seconds until the message appears "Progl" (in the on-board computer "P1").
- Press the desired function button, for example, if you are interested in average fuel consumption 2 (not 1), then after pressing the VERBR button, press the unit switch buttons (2), Further pressing the unit switch button will cause the indication of consumption 1 and consumption 2 to change in sequence. In the same way, the date and time indication is switched.
- Click the button "S/R".
If again it is desirable to display all information with a sequential indication on the display of the instrument cluster, do the following:
- Press the turn signal lever for 3 seconds until the message appears"Progl" (in the on-board computer "P1").
- Click the button "S/R".
In the event of a power outage, such as when the battery is replaced, all data stored in the computer's memory is erased.
When power is restored, the date and time must be re-entered into the computer, as well as, if necessary, the heating / ventilation system start time, distance to the destination and the speed limit.
When a fault code is displayed "RRRR" Contact BMW Service.
Attention:
- The buttons are arranged in decimal sequence: 1000, 100, 10, 1
- Unrealistic values are not entered into memory.
- Entering a new number erases the value in memory and can be done with any sequence of pressing the decimal buttons.
- To enter a value into memory, press the button "S/R".
- Each time the button is pressed or the button is kept pressed every ½ second, the value in the corresponding digit increases by one.
