Automatic speed control device (cruise control) (BMW 5 Series E34)
This device allows you to remember and automatically maintain the desired speed over 40 km/h.
The position of the lever for movement at a given speed, memorization and acceleration.
Press the lever in this direction: The actual speed is entered into the device's memory and is kept constant. With each subsequent press of the lever, the speed will increase by 1 km/h.
Keep the lever pressed in this position:
The car will accelerate without pressing the accelerator pedal. If you release the lever, the speed reached at this point will be stored in the device's memory and will be maintained at this level.
The cruise control system is switched off if the set speed is exceeded for more than 1 minute and by more than 10 km/h.
On vehicles with the ASC system, the cruise control system is also automatically switched off after the set speed is exceeded by 16 km/h or after it is reduced by 8 km/h.
Lever positions for reducing the set speed and memorizing it. Press the lever and hold it in this position:
If the cruise control is on, the vehicle speed will be reduced by automatically closing the throttle. After releasing the lever, the achieved speed will be maintained automatically. Press the lever and release it: Each time you press it, the vehicle speed will be reduced by 1 km/h and maintained at the new level.
Press the lever:
The last entered speed value will be recalled from the device's memory, to which it will first be brought and then maintained at the specified level.
The cruise control device will switch off immediately regardless of the operating mode and traffic situation.
In addition, the cruise control will be switched off if the deceleration exceeds 1.5 m/s², for example when driving uphill, braking, disengaging the clutch or moving the AT control lever from position "D" to position "N".
After the engine is turned off, the device will turn off and the entered speed value will be erased.
