Idle speed control valve — checking, removing and installing (BMW 7 Series E32)

The idle speed control valve is located on the intake manifold and is connected by hoses to the throttle body.

Note: To check if the idle air control valve is working, place your hand on the valve. When the engine is running, the valve should vibrate due to the intermittent supply of voltage.

Removal

After loosening the clamp, pull the air supply hose off the throttle body.

Remove the bolts and throttle body.

Note: The throttle cable and throttle body heater hoses remain connected.

Remove the bolt and remove the dipstick guide tube from the holder.



Remove the two bolts securing the valve to the intake manifold and pull the valve down.



Pull off the idle speed adjustment plug by pressing the wire fastener. Pull off the sealing ring and rubber bushing. Loosen the clamp and remove the hose.

Measuring resistance

Connect an ohmmeter to the valve contacts and measure the resistance.



Dynamic test Connect the plug. Fully open or close the rotary piston of the valve by hand.



Turn on the ignition. The rotary piston should now occupy a position where it covers about 50% of the cross-section and maintains 80.

Installation

Place the hose on the adjustment valve and secure it with a clamp. Always replace the gasket when installing, and lubricate the valve body with technical petroleum jelly to make it easier to put on the sealing ring.

Insert the adjusting valve and secure it with bolts. Install the dipstick tube.

Place the plug on the valve.



Install the throttle body.

Attach the air supply hose and secure it with clamps.

Interrogate the DME memory unit for fault codes. After troubleshooting, clear the codes.
