Removal and installation, checking of the idle speed control valve (BMW 3 Series E36)
The idle speed control valve is located on the intake manifold and is connected to the places in front of and behind the throttle valve fitting by hoses.
Six-cylinder engine: Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle valve fitting, having first loosened the clamp.
Disconnect connector "2" of the idle speed control valve, pressing the wire retainer. Release the hose fastening "arrows", disconnect hoses "2" and "3". The figure shows a four-cylinder engine, on a six-cylinder engine the valve is located under the intake manifold.
Four-cylinder engine: Remove the "4" wire retaining tape.
Release the idle speed control valve from the mount and pull it out.
Six-cylinder engine: Connect an ohmmeter to the valve terminals and measure the resistance. Specified value: terminals 1 and 3: 40±5 ohms. terminals 2 and 1 or 2 and 3: 20 + 5 ohms.
Four-cylinder engine: The valve has only 2 contacts. Connect Connect an ohmmeter to the valve contacts and measure the resistance. Specified value: 8 + 2 ohms.
Connect the power connector.
Fully open or close the valve piston.
Turn on the ignition. The rotary piston should take a position of approximately 50% of the cross-hole and remain in this position.
Connect the hoses to the idle speed control valve.
Put on the connector and secure the wire.
Six-cylinder engine: Connect the air intake hose and secure it with tape.

Note: To check if the idle speed control valve is working, place your hand on the valve. When the engine is running, the valve should vibrate from the power pulses.
Removal
Six-cylinder engine: Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle valve fitting, having first loosened the clamp.

Resistance check

Dynamic check
Connect the power connector.

Fully open or close the valve piston.

Installation
Connect the hoses to the idle speed control valve.
Put on the connector and secure the wire.
Six-cylinder engine: Connect the air intake hose and secure it with tape.
