Autonomous heating and ventilation system (BMW 5 Series E34)

            0

The autonomous heating/ventilation system can be switched on at an air temperature below +16°C with the ignition key removed (as well as with the key in positions "0" and "1").

With the help of a preset switching time, you can get into a warmed-up car in winter. In addition, it is easier to free the car from snow and ice.

The autonomous heating system automatically switches off after 30 minutes of operation. Due to significant energy consumption, the system should not be switched on twice in a row, without giving the battery the opportunity to recharge on the go between switches.

With a conventional heating system:
  • Move the air distribution control up or down as desired to direct heated air either through the window defoggers or through the lower footwell vents (front and back).
  • Shut off the outside air supply (and also the grille at the end of the middle console).
  • Set the fan rotary control to the vertical position (approximately 12 o'clock).

If you have air conditioning:

Open the air vents using the air distribution levers and close the grille on the center console through which outside air enters.

If you have automatic air conditioning:

Heated air is automatically supplied to the passenger compartment through the window heating nozzles and through the front and rear footwell grilles. Starting from the key position "1", the air flow distribution can be adjusted manually using the buttons.

If the ignition key is in position "1", then with any heating system you can regulate the air temperature in the cabin using the appropriate regulators. In position "0" of the ignition key, the system operates at maximum performance.

Note: The heating continues to operate for some time after switching off (with the LED already off).

At air temperatures above +16°C, the autonomous ventilation system can operate, reducing the air temperature in the cabin (with the same ignition key positions as for the autonomous heating system).

With a conventional heating system:
  • Open the air ducts using the lever; however, ventilation is more effective through the outside air intake grilles (front or on the center console).
  • Set the fan rotary control to the vertical position (approximately 12 o'clock).

If you have air conditioning:

Open the ventilation grilles using the air flow distribution levers; however, ventilation is more effective through the outside air intake grilles (front or back).

If you have automatic air conditioning:

The air supply is regulated automatically by the guide and metering grilles on the dashboard. Therefore, for effective ventilation, these grilles must be fully open.

Important instructions:
  • If the autonomous heating system does not turn on after 2 start attempts (no more) or turns off spontaneously, contact a BMW service station.
  • Do not turn on the autonomous heating system in closed spaces! When refueling, be sure to turn off the autonomous heater!

Recommendation: During the warm season, the system should be turned on approximately once a month for 5 minutes.

At temperatures above +5°C, proceed as follows:

Timer system:Hold the "A-TEMP" button pressed for 3 seconds, the letter "E" will appear on the display.

If there is an on-board computer:Simultaneously hold the "A-TEMP" and "ZEIT" buttons pressed for 3 seconds, the display will show "IN". After this, you can turn on the autonomous heating system once (in manual on/off mode).
