Removal and installation the engine compartment hood (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Disconnect the plug connector for the windshield washer nozzles.

Disconnect the hose supplying the fluid to the windshield washer nozzles at the distributor.



Mark the mounting position of the compensation plate at the hinges by drawing an "arrow" around the plates with a felt-tip pen

Support the engine hood securely or have an assistant support it.

On the left and right, unscrew bolt "1", release bolt "2".

At the right hinge, unscrew the ground wire fastening.

With the help of an assistant, remove the hood.

Installation

Together with an assistant, put the hood back in place and lightly tighten the bolts "1".

Align the hood according to the marks applied and tighten the mounting bolts.

If a new hood is installed, it must be adjusted.
